They both need God’s grace for new life in Christ.

THE MARKS OF THE RELIGIOUS
1. They judge others while ignoring their own sin vv1-3
“What we often do is find our faults in others and we judge them. That way we experience the pleasure of self-righteousness without the pain of our own repentance.” - John Stott,
2. They hate man’s badness more than they love god’s goodness v4
3. Mistake God's patience for his approval.

2 Peter 2:5 – If He did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
1 Peter 3:20 – …because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.
4. Trust personal knowledge over personal obedience vv6-8
WHAT GRACE REQUIRES OF US
1. I stop defending my own sin.
2. A realization that God doesn’t merely overlook my sin
3. My pride is wiped out.
4. Christ’s standing must become my standing.
