The Grace of the Spirit
John 3:1-8 (v1-2)
The opposite of grace is not legalism; it is pride.
Pride often manifests itself as the need to be in control.
The Grace of the Spirit means that I don't have to be in control:
1. Salvation is not dependent on my performance. (v3-4)
2. I am both cleansed from sin and freed from the power of sin. (v5-7; Ezekiel 36)
3. I now obey the Lord from a place of love, not for it. (Ezekiel 36)
4. I can yield to the power of the ever-present Helper. (v8)

The Ever-Present Helper:

  • Regenerates Us (John 3:5)
  • Teaches us all things (John 14:26)
  • Guides us into Truth (John 16:13)
  • Empowers us (Acts 1:8)
  • Gives us gifts (1 Cor. 12:1-11)
  • Helps us in weakness (Romans 8:26)
  • Prays for us (Romans 8:26)
